Meet our Glass Processing Apprentice Landon

Landon started his apprenticeship as a Glass Processing Apprentice in March this year. Before joining Bowlphish Glass Services, he was doing carpentry, but he felt it wasn’t the right career path for him.

His decision to apply for an apprenticeship was an easy one, as he couldn’t see himself hitting the books again, but instead saw himself in a hands-on role, where he could learn and gain a qualification at the same time.

You wonder why he chose glass processing? So, did we. His answer is simple: it is a specialist trade.

During his 12 months with The Glass Wipe Board Company he will learn how to toughen and cut glass, as well as getting in depth training on the polishing machine. However, they are only the technical bits he can be taught. Being surrounded by colleagues in the workshop, he will also learn what it means to work in a team (not that he wouldn’t know how to do that already), how team work can have an impact on your job as well as the product quality and he will get the chance to take part in team building activities.

Within his first weeks, Landon realised how much fun it is working in our workshop and he enjoys working in a busy environment. But of course, where there is a positive, there is also a negative. In Landon’s case, and just according to him, it is the fact that he isn’t an expert yet as he is keen to develop skills quickly. Don’t worry Landon, you will get there!

When we asked Landon to peer into a crystal ball and tell us what he sees in his future, he told us that, once he successfully completed his Glass Processing Apprenticeship, he would like to go into the glass trade and become a glass cutting expert. Ideally, he would also like to get an insight in the other side of the glass trade by working in production.

Welcome to the team Landon and we hope you enjoy your time with us!
