We are supporting National Apprenticeship Week 2018

This week (5 - 9 March 2018) is National Apprenticeship Week, a scheme we, as a business, greatly support.

The Glass Wipe Board Company took on their first apprentice Will in 2017, who has just completed his Level 2 Warehousing Operations apprenticeship. Will has already been an established employee and as part of his development was offered the chance to upskill to gain a qualification.

“Our business is growing year after year, and we are keen to bring apprentices in to the company to bring people up through the ranks. The key factors we feel, from a business perspective, apprenticeships bring growth and help retain sustainable staff. Our sector is not a ‘trade’ as such, but you do still need training, and there are still standards and procedures that need to be met as part of our quality and compliance. It is a challenge to train new staff on the job as established staff are already trained but by having the support of an assessor who focuses on the apprentice with a line manager helps support training elements in depth and is a huge advantage”, says Aaron Dewhurst, CEO of The Glass Wipe Board Company and Bowlphish Glass Services.

He continues “We like to see staff make progression within the company as well as through CIPD and there are lots of opportunities to go further within our business.”

Everybody realised that apprentices bring significant value to the company and due to Will’s success story, The Glass Wipe Board Company and Bowl Phish Glass Services have taken on a total of 6 apprentices since November 2017.

Over the next few weeks, we will be talking to all 6 of them, introducing them to you and we will also trying to find out a bit more about each one and to see what they think about their apprenticeship so far. We will also be speaking to Will for him to tell us about his experience.

Our little apprenticeship series will be kicked off by Landon, who started with us in February as a Glass Processing Apprentice.
